Take a walk through our Australian backyard in spring and see 55+ edible plants growing in an ordinary suburban space. This is what a productive urban homestead actually looks like: vegetables, herbs, fruit and more, all grown to cut grocery costs and take back a little food sovereignty. If you've wondered what's worth growing at home in Australia, this tour shows what thrives. Everything we’re growing: Fruit: Plums, nectarines, peaches, kumquat, lemons, limes, figs, pears, mulberries, lillypillies, finger limes, feijoas, apples, oranges, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, silverberries, strawberries, passion fruit, grapes, watermelon, rock melon, mandarin. Vegetables: silver beet/swiss chard, spinach, mixed lettuces, various beans & peas, various cherry and large tomatoes, various chillies, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, garlic, potatoes, edible succulents/natives, nasturtiums, capsicum, radishes, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin, fennel, onions. Herbs: coriander, thyme, parsley, basil, saltbush, sage, chives, oregano, chamomile, mint. And a bunch of various flowers (natives mostly) to attract pollinators, birds etc. to our space.
