The AK-47 was one of the toughest and most reliable rifles of the Vietnam War, and the United States had to find answers to it in the jungle. In this video, we go through eight American rifles that were used to face it: the M16A1, M14, XM177, Stoner 63, M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, Remington M40, and M21.
You will learn how each rifle worked, why it was chosen, where it was used, and what its strengths and weaknesses were in the heat, mud, and dense vegetation of Vietnam. We cover the troubled start of the M16 and how it was fixed, the compact XM177 carried by special operations teams, the unusual modular Stoner 63 used by Navy SEALs, and the sniper rifles that could hit targets far beyond the reach of the AK-47.
If you enjoy detailed, easy-to-follow military history, this video is for you.
