In deep playa, we found ourselves immersed in a surreal dust storm during Jan Blomqvist’s 2026 live set at Maxa.
Behind goggles and masks, we experienced a performance of his music in an otherworldly setting, reminding us of what immediacy truly means. In a world without distractions, we were united through sound behind a veil between the real and unreal that can only be experienced at Burning Man.
Jan's Words:
When the question arose whether we should do the show or not, I thought: I didn’t travel half the globe and leave my kids at home for three weeks just to go home empty-handed. I wanted to come home with at least one memorable performance from Burning Man 2026. Sometimes you just have to see things through.
From experience, I know it’s usually worth it. So we decided to do it and just see what happens. People showed up during a fierce dust storm. It was incredibly hard to sing against the wind, but I decided to go with the original recording.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us against all odds, and everyone who found us despite almost zero visibility for hours. I think everyone who danced with us in the dust will remember this moment for the rest of their lives. It was one of those moments that connects you forever.
Watch until the end and maybe place a bet on whether I’ll ever take off my goggles and scarf again.
