In December 2003, weeks before Christmas, LEGO tore up its own leadership. Sales of its toys had fallen 29 percent in a single year. The most famous toy company on Earth was losing money on clothing, theme parks, video games — almost everything it touched. Everything except one strange toy its own executives barely understood. This is how LEGO nearly destroyed itself: the disastrous expansion, the 800-million-kroner family rescue, the theme parks sold off, the factories handed to strangers — and the tiny plastic flower that exposed it all. And how the company saved itself with one decision: changing back. Every business has a story. Every decision has a consequence.
