Tomb Raider King premiered on Crunchyroll and the internet called it a Solo Leveling rip-off within a week. Same black hair, same sharp jaw, same glowing eyes, same blue status window. The verdict was easy, but it was aimed at the wrong target.
Both stories began in Korea in the spring of 2016, written by two men who had never met, on two rival platforms, with two opposite protagonists. Neither had a face yet. Two years later one studio gave them the same one.
This is the story of Redice Studio, the company that drew Sung Jinwoo, then drew Seo Joo-heon in the same building a year later, and kept applying the look to everything KakaoPage sent it. It covers DUBU, the artist who built the style and died at 37, the tracing scandal nobody outside Korea heard about, the money that came in from Kakao and the Gulf, and the awards that went to one series while the other got the comparison.
