CHOOSE ME is a haunting, slow-burning forbidden-love song from BlackTop Hymns, blending Gothic Rock, Dark Alternative, Cinematic Dark Folk, and Dark Bollywood into an intimate story of love against inherited division. Two people grow up learning which names belong on the other side of the line. Their families know the rules. Their homes remember the old divisions. They are supposed to stay apart. Then they meet. What begins quietly, with a café door held open in the rain, slowly becomes something neither of them can walk away from. As family pressure, old prejudices, and fear close in around them, they are forced to decide whether the past will choose their future for them. The production begins in a dark, intimate space with melancholic piano, acoustic guitar, low cello, ambient textures, and subtle sarangi-inspired strings. A vulnerable male lead carries the story before Gothic guitars, deep bass, live drums, cinematic percussion, bowed strings, and restrained Indian melodic textures push the choruses into something larger and more desperate. Female vocals appear only in fragments: distant harmonies, echoes, and whispered responses, like another voice inside the memory. At its heart, CHOOSE ME is about refusing to inherit someone else's hatred. "I can't undo what came before us, but I won't carry it into our lives." #ChooseMe #BlackTopHymns #GothicRock #DarkAlternative #CinematicDarkFolk #DarkBollywood #ForbiddenLove #DarkLoveSong #CinematicMusic #AlternativeRock #GothicMusic #EmotionalRock #MaleFemaleVocals #HauntingMusic #originalmusic Lyric: [Intro] They told me your name before I knew your face. Told me which side you came from, which doors were not for me. I believed them. Until I met you. [Verse 1] Your name was a warning nailed above the door. Mine was the reason your father checked the lock. We learned where the lines were before we learned why. Then you held the café door open for me in the rain. You smiled like you knew I was trying not to stay. I stayed. And for the first time, I wondered if they were wrong. [Pre-Chorus 1] You never asked me to forget where I came from. You just stayed beside me until I wasn't afraid. And when you took my hand, I stopped believing them. [Chorus 1] Choose me when the old names call. Choose me when they draw the line. I don't know where this road will lead, I only know I want you by my side. If everything they taught us was meant to keep us apart, then maybe loving you is where we start. Choose me. Choose me... [Verse 2] You learned the chipped blue mug I always reached for. At your kitchen table, you told me about your sister. I told you about my brother. Somewhere along the way, I stopped keeping score. You left your coat beside my chair. I wore it home. And for the first time, home didn't feel like a place. [Pre-Chorus 2] Then the old words filled the hallway. Your mother knew. My father knew. Wrong name. Wrong blood. Wrong love. But when you took my hand, I couldn't walk away. [Chorus 2] Choose me when they tell us we're wrong. Choose me when they say we don't belong. Let them close their doors behind us. Let them say what they want to say. I'd rather face the darkness than let their fear decide our lives. Choose me when they tell us to let go. If you take my hand, I'll stay by your side. Choose me. Choose me... [Verse 3] The night they came to find us, you were shaking in my car. You said, “Maybe they're right. Maybe this has gone too far.” I didn't know what to say. I reached for your hand. You held on. Then you looked at me— Are you scared? Yeah. But I'm more afraid of letting them choose. [Bridge] Maybe they'll never understand. But when you take my hand, I know where I belong. So let them close their doors. Let them keep their walls. I won't go back. I won't let go. Don't let go... Not this time. [Breakdown] No permission. No one to ask. Just your hand in mine. And my heart saying— Stay. Stay. [Final Chorus] Choose me when the old names call. Choose me when they draw the line. I can't undo what came before us, but I won't carry it into our lives. I've spent my whole life doing what they said. But I'm done being afraid. I choose you. Choose me... And I'll choose you. I'll choose you... [Final Variation ] Your name was something I was taught to hate. Now I know your laugh. I know what scares you. A name was never the danger. It was what they made it mean. We'll make something different with ours. And I'll choose you. I'll choose you... [Outro] The same old road. The same old houses. The same names still written on the doors. You take my hand. I don't let go. For the first time, I don't hear their voices. I hear yours. Come home. Come home.
