Ghantakarna, locally known as Gathamuga, is one of the most important traditional festivals celebrated by the Newar community in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Observed on Shrawan Krishna Chaturdashi, the festival symbolizes the banishment of evil spirits, misfortune, and negative influences while marking the completion of the paddy planting season. Rich in mythology, ritual practices, and agricultural traditions, Gathamuga reflects the close relationship between spiritual beliefs and rural life in Newar culture.
