The BDD Chawls, or Bombay Development Directorate Chawls, were developed in the 1920s .There are ongoing redevelopment initiatives aimed at upgrading these structures. New residential buildings, designed to provide better living conditions, have been proposed, with some units expected to be ready for occupation by January 2025.
