A horse drops in class and the crowd bets him down like he's the best horse in the race. Some days that drop means the barn came to win. Some days it means they'd like somebody to claim him before anybody finds out what's wrong with him. In your program, the two look about the same. I trained thoroughbreds for forty years on the Kentucky circuit, and I set those prices myself. In this one I walk you through the three questions I asked about every dropper when I was the one holding the claim slip: how far he's dropping, what he's dropping off of, and who paid what for him. You'll hear about claiming jail and why a claimed horse runs back for more money, the maiden drop that usually isn't sinister, the horse I claimed that came back with a hot ankle, and the one tell in the past performances I trusted more than any other.
