38 years at the arrangement table, written down plainly: every line on the price list you can legally refuse, what really happens to the body, and what to say before you sign.
What families never see after the casket closes is mostly quiet, careful work, and a sealer casket does far less than most families are told. After 38 years as a funeral director in southern Ohio, I walk you through that hour in order.
In this video, I walk through the flowers coming off the lid, the memory picture, lowering the casket bed, the casket key and the rubber gasket, what steel gauge really means, the church truck and the hearse, the lowering at the graveside, and why cemeteries require a vault. I also cover a 1999 casket venting patent and what the 1981 Oswald exhumation found.
Most importantly, I explain your rights under the FTC Funeral Rule, the two sentences to say when they hand you the price list, and what to ask the cemetery before you pay for a sealer or a vault.
