Joe Hisaishi's piece "Carrying You" also known as "Innocent" is the main theme to Study Ghibli's movie Laputa: Castle in the Sky. This is my favorite Ghibli theme from my favorite Ghibli movie; it hits with incredible nostalgia and sorrow, but beauty as well. In this video I analyze the piece's harmony as well as its formal structure. I use my own unique form of Roman numeral analysis that borrows the inversion system from German functional analysis.
