Jazz and Justice: Wynton Marsalis on Art Confronting Racism – Ep 2

Wynton Marsalis, the world-renowned musician, composer, and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, converses with host Greg Thomas about the recording, The Democracy! Suite, and delves deeply into the patronizing racism still troubling American life. In the intro and outro, co-host Aryeh Tepper describes Wynton’s crucial role in his soul-enriching “jazz initiation story.” Additional topics include Wynton’s relationship with Albert Murray, Ralph Ellison, and Stanley Crouch; downhome tales of New Orleans and Staten Island; the responsibilities of democratic citizens; and the import of cultural leadership in the 21st century.
