If your fitness tracker ever says your heart rate is -77... don't breathe.
Your watch wakes you up some time after 3 AM with a low heart rate alert. Your heart rate fell below zero while you appeared to be asleep. Your own pulse is fine. Seventy-seven, steady. The minus is something else, something lying very close that already has your heartbeat and is learning the rest of you. Seven rules will get you to the morning. The eighth explains the steps your watch logged at three in the morning while you were fast asleep.

ABOUT THESE FILES
Survival rules for ordinary things that start acting slightly wrong. Each file covers one object, one set of rules, and one rule that was never meant to be published. Follow them in order. If a rule feels pointless, that means it's working.

This video is fiction. Low heart rate alerts, the breathing reminder, fall detection and the walk your watch tries to record when you've barely moved are all real. A heart rate of -77 is not. Probably. And if your step count ever shows a few hundred steps at 3 AM, you might not want to check where they went.
