In October 1997, Kevin Garnett signed a six-year, $126 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, more than owner Glen Taylor had paid for the whole team two years earlier. The league spent the next 25 years writing rules to stop another deal like it, and almost every rule came with a loophole.
Every loophole in this video:
1. The Bird exception: Larry Bird
2. The poison pill (Gilbert Arenas provision): Jeremy Lin
3. The sign-and-trade: LeBron James
4. The amnesty clause: Gilbert Arenas
5. The stretch provision: Josh Smith
6. The Rose Rule: Derrick Rose
7. The 2016 cap spike: Kevin Durant
8. The supermax: Stephen Curry (and DeMarcus Cousins)
Which of these loopholes would you get rid of if you ran the NBA? Tell me in the comments. Subscribe for the money behind the game.
