Leave a Little Static

Leave a Little Static *Verse 1* I had a melody at midnight Sang it low into my phone By morning it was shining Like a city made of chrome Every note was in its place Every edge was smoothed away Then I heard the first take playing And I knew which one to save *Pre-Chorus* That breath before the high note That laugh I tried to hide I turned them up and let the whole thing rise *Chorus* Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let me hear you coming through Every perfect line can sound so distant I’d rather hear the real thing from you Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let the rough edges shine If you can hear my heart between the frequencies Then I know the song is mine *Verse 2* We made a hundred different versions Took the chorus for a spin Found a sound I’d never dreamed of And built a bigger world within But the moment that I kept Was the one I couldn’t plan: My voice cracked on “I miss you” And the whole room understood *Pre-Chorus* So bring in all the color Let the ceiling open wide Keep that one small moment right inside *Bridge* Turn it up, let it ring Hear the room around the strings All the places we could go Start with something only I could know Then you show me something new And I choose what carries through **Final chorus ** Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let me hear you coming through Every perfect line can sound so distant I’d rather hear the real thing from you Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let the rough edges shine If you can hear my heart between the frequencies Then I know the song is mine Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let me hear you coming through We can make the sound as big as heaven Keep the midnight in it too Leave a little static in the signal (Leave it in! Leave it in!) Let the rough edges shine If you can hear my heart between the frequencies Then I know the song is mine *Outro* Leave the breath before the high note (Before the high note) Leave the midnight in the room (In the room) Let the signal fade to static I’m still coming through
