Minn Kota Talon 12' Review on a Pontoon Boat | Game-Changing Shallow Water Anchor?

I have been using the Minn Kota Talon 12-foot shallow water anchor on my pontoon boat, and after living with it in real Florida Gulf Coast conditions, I can say this: it has changed the way I anchor the boat. Before installing the Talon, every fishing stop meant dealing with a traditional anchor. Drop it, hope it grabs, pull it back up, move, and repeat. One feature I like is that the anchor requires two presses of the down button to deploy, which helps prevent accidental deployment. Even though this is a 12-foot Talon, I have found that it performs best when there is enough spike left to penetrate the bottom securely. In the video, I demonstrate it holding in roughly 9 feet of water and discuss why I would not count on the full 12-foot rating as a practical everyday anchoring depth. The Talon has also been useful for more than fishing. When beaching the pontoon, I can put the bow on the sand and drop the Talon to help hold the boat in place. When boat camping, I can use the traditional bow anchor along with the Talon to keep the boat much more stationary overnight. My Verdict I give the Minn Kota Talon an 8 out of 10. It is not perfect, especially once you start pushing into deeper water, but for shallow-water fishing, beaching, and boat camping, it has been a major convenience upgrade over constantly handling a traditional anchor.
