Afghanistan: The History of Empires, Wars & Survival

Afghanistan has stood at the crossroads of some of the greatest civilizations in history. From Alexander the Great and the Persian empires to the Kushans, Ghaznavids, Ghurids, Mongols, the Durrani Empire, the British Empire, the Soviet Union, and the wars of the 21st century — Afghanistan has repeatedly found itself at the center of history. But why has this mountainous land been so difficult for powerful empires to control? In this documentary, we travel through thousands of years of Afghan history — exploring ancient civilizations, the rise of powerful Afghan empires, the Mongol invasion, the formation of the Durrani Empire, the Anglo-Afghan wars, the Soviet-Afghan War, the rise of the Taliban, the events following September 11, 2001, and the Taliban's return to Kabul in 2021. This is not the story of a single war or a single empire. It is the story of a crossroads — shaped by mountains, trade, cultures, political struggles, foreign intervention, resistance, destruction, and remarkable resilience. 🎬 *Topics covered:* • Ancient Afghanistan and the Persian Empires • Alexander the Great • The Kushan Empire and Buddhism • Ghaznavids and Ghurids • The Mongol invasion • Timurid Herat • Ahmad Shah Durrani and the Afghan state • The Anglo-Afghan Wars • Afghanistan and the Great Game • The 1919 Third Anglo-Afghan War • Political upheaval in the 1970s • The Soviet-Afghan War • The Afghan Civil War • The rise of the Taliban • September 11, 2001 and the U.S.-led war • The 2021 Taliban takeover A journey through one of the most complex and consequential histories in the world. #Afghanistan #AfghanistanHistory #HistoryDocumentary #WorldHistory #HistoricalDocumentary #AncientHistory #Geopolitics #MilitaryHistory
