Carolyn Carlson is a visionary who has reshaped contemporary dance through more than 100 choreographies — from Density 21.5 and Blue Lady to The Tree — that turn movement into poetry. In 2006 she became the first choreographer ever awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. She founded Atelier de Paris-Carolyn Carlson, directed the Roubaix National Choreographic Centre for nearly a decade, and entrusted fifty years of work — poems, sketches, performances — to the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
