2.3 million blocks. Twenty years. That works out at one block cut, hauled, lifted and set in place roughly every few minutes of daylight, every single day, for two decades — with no iron tools, no pulleys and no machines.
So how did they actually do it?
Not the alien version. We know far more than most people think, and the single best piece of evidence only turned up in 2013: a 4,500-year-old work diary belonging to a man called Merer, who spent his days shipping white limestone up the Nile. It is, essentially, a delivery note for the Great Pyramid, written by someone who was there.
What you'll learn:
→ Why the pyramids were not built by slaves, and how we know
→ The 4,500-year-old logbook that records the deliveries
→ Why most of the stone barely travelled at all
→ The wet sand trick hiding in plain sight in a tomb painting for over a century
→ The ramp question that is still genuinely unsolved
→ What the workers wrote on the walls where nobody was meant to look
