🔴 Live from Belgrade: A New Era for the 1 Series!
We are coming to you live from the bustling halls of the DDOR BG Car Show 09 here at the Belgrade Fair! While massive SUVs and EVs usually dominate the floor, BMW has brought something incredibly important for the European market: the brand-new F70 generation 1 Series. Say hello to the 2026 BMW 116! You might notice something missing—BMW has officially dropped the "i" from its petrol models, meaning this base-model hatchback is simply the "116." Designed to be the perfect premium urban commuter, it boasts a completely redesigned exterior, the cutting-edge BMW Curved Display, and a highly efficient 3-cylinder engine. We take a complete walkaround of this sleek hatchback to check out its new front fascia, the buttonless interior, and its 122 horsepower powertrain!
Key 2026 Specs & Working Features:
The Efficient 1.5L Powertrain: Powering the new 116 is BMW's refined 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder petrol engine (B38). Pumping out 122 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, it is optimized for smooth, punchy city driving. Paired exclusively with a lightning-fast 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission, it handles the 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.8 seconds while offering exceptional fuel economy for daily commuting.
A Sharper, Lower Stance: The F70 generation brings a massive visual update. The front end sits noticeably lower to the ground, giving it a much sportier, wedge-like profile. The traditional kidney grille has been completely redesigned with a slimmer, wider aesthetic, flanked by sharp, swept-back LED headlights featuring distinctive vertical daytime running lights.
The Digital "Curved Display" Cabin: Step inside, and the generational leap is immediately obvious. BMW has completely decluttered the dashboard, replacing traditional analog dials and buttons with the stunning BMW Curved Display. This pairs a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.7-inch central infotainment screen running the latest BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect. The center console is also heavily simplified, featuring a minimalist gear selector toggle in place of the old traditional shifter.
Premium Practicality: Despite its compact footprint, the 116 remains a highly practical daily driver. The 5-door layout offers comfortable seating for four adults, and the boot provides a very respectable 380 liters of cargo space—which easily expands to 1,200 liters when you fold the rear seats down.
⭐ Why the BMW 116 (2026) Stands Out
It serves as the perfect, highly accessible entry point into the premium BMW ecosystem without sacrificing the brand's legendary build quality or modern tech.
The dramatic interior overhaul, highlighted by the BMW Curved Display and OS 9, makes it feel like a much more expensive, higher-tier luxury car.
The refined 3-cylinder turbo and 7-speed dual-clutch combo provides a highly responsive, engaging drive while keeping urban running costs impressively low.
