Monitoring Surface Water with SAR for Water Resource Management Part 2: Water Surface Extent from OPERA This session introduces participants to the OPERA project’s Surface Water Extent product (DSWx) and its applications for monitoring surface water dynamics. Participants will learn how the product is generated from NISAR observations, the information it provides, and its strengths and limitations for water resource monitoring and flood applications. The session will discuss the types of water features that can be detected, appropriate use cases, and considerations for interpreting the product in different environments. Participants will also become familiar with the product format, key attributes, and how to access this dataset. The session concludes with a demonstration in QGIS, where participants will learn how to visualize and interpret the OPERA Surface Water Extent product and explore its use for assessing changes in surface water extent in support of water resource management and disaster response.
