Some men die long before their bodies ever reach the ground.
For a Son Who Died While Still on His Feet is a dark country ballad about a mother's final prayer for a son she knows is already lost.
Before he walks back into the night, he returns to his mother's old house. She doesn't ask where he's been or what he's done. She simply takes out her rosary and begins to pray with a broken voice. For the son standing before her. For the dead brother whose name still lives between every prayer. And for the little boy she remembers before guilt, blood, and sorrow changed him.
She knows she cannot stop him.
Her final words stay with him as he walks through the door: “God is great… but sometimes He takes His time.”
This is a story about guilt, family, faith, and the terrible moment when a mother realizes that the child she loves may already be gone — even though he is still standing in front of her.
A slow, cinematic Dark Country / Southern Gothic ballad built around mournful slide guitar, deep gravelly vocals, sparse percussion, and the atmosphere of an old frontier home before dawn.
A prayer for the living. A farewell to the dead. And a son walking toward the end of his road.
