I bought a used F-150 Lightning. One year and 18,000 miles later.

A couple of years ago I sold the 4Runner I'd spent years building out and barely used. Bought a Model Y, loved it for about a year, scraped the whole rear quarter panel on a dirt road at Boca Reservoir, and sold it like that. This is what I got instead — a used 2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat, $43,500 private party, 32,000 miles. One year and 18,000 miles in, this is everything that's gone wrong with it and everything Ford got right. Real numbers from my actual power bill, registration and insurance, not a spreadsheet estimate. The short version: • 11.5¢/kWh at home works out to about 5.5¢ a mile — around $82 a month for the truck • Charging the two cars is 41% of my whole house's electricity • Nevada charges $462.50 a year to register it, most of that a tax on what it cost new • Insurance is $1,663 — the 4Runner was more • The reverse light bar filled with water 3,000 miles past warranty. $1,500. Then it became a recall. Then eight months for parts. • Range: Ford says 320, I plan around 275 • It's worth about what I paid for it Would I do it again? Yes. Would I go back to gas?
