A heartfelt song about how a brother has lied and mis-treated his family after leading a colourful life, in and out of jail, stealing and lying to them. How, after realising he needs to change he goes into a kind of self-imposed exile, living in another country for some 20 year, each day trying to repay for what he has done to his family but, sadly, most turn their back on him except the youngest brother (the one with the most reason not to trust him, or have anything to do with him). They are now stronger than ever. If you like this track, please hit the subscribe button as this really helps independent artists' music to reach more people. He sold his stories to the ones back home, To keep the wheels of his wanting rolling on. He took from the trust that his own hands made, Left apologies that the years outstayed. A colourful life, with a costly price, And a family counting every sacrifice. [Pre-Chorus] Then he crossed an ocean, left the old life behind, Twenty years with the truth and the past in his mind. [Chorus] He’s been living far away, trying to make things right, One day at a time, one honest choice at night. Most turned their backs; the hurt ran deep, But one stayed beside him when the road got steep. Now the youngest and the oldest stand stronger than before, And the one he wounded most still holds open the door. He can’t undo the miles or the years that went wrong, But he’s turning his life around, and he’s holding on. [Verse 2] No grand excuse, no easy way through, Just a quiet promise kept in what he’ll do. A room in a country that still feels strange, A plain-spoken letter, a habit of change. The calls come slowly, the old names ache, Some bridges are gone, some may never awake. But the brotherhood he has is steady and true, And the hardest-earned hope is beginning to bloom. [Pre-Chorus] He crossed an ocean, let the old lies fall, And learned that a life can be rebuilt, not recalled. [Instrumental Break: lightly overdriven electric guitar with short delay, shifting from tense to hopeful] [Bridge] To the one who stayed when the rest let go, He knows what it cost you; he wants you to know: Your faith wasn’t wasted, your patience was brave, You stood by the man he is learning to save. And to his brothers: the years made you strong, You found your own footing, you carried on. [Final Chorus] He’s been living far away, trying to make things right, One day at a time, choosing truth over flight. Most turned their backs; the hurt ran deep, But one stayed beside him, a promise to keep. Now the youngest and the oldest stand stronger than before, And the one he wounded most still holds open the door. His family may be scattered, the past may stay long, But he’s turned his life around, and he’s carrying on. [Outro] Twenty years, a road remade, One true heart that never strayed. He can’t rewrite the years gone by, But he can live the truth, and try.
