This 4K film brings together the passage of time in a corner of the city and a live performance of Liszt’s Les Préludes in its two-piano arrangement, played by Martha Argerich and Daniel Rivera. The afternoon light transforms familiar streets into fleeting scenes that will never appear in quite the same way again. Architecture and greenery, light and shadow. The elements that give the city its form begin to breathe quietly within the music. As the landscape intertwines with the sounds of Les Préludes woven by two pianos, it becomes more than a view of the city: it becomes the visible shape of time passing. A photograph holds a moment still. Music gives that moment time to flow once more. That afternoon in Umeda, I heard the city’s symphonic poem.
