Data warehouses have traditionally struggled with free form text, notes, logs, comments. Not anymore. Microsoft Fabric Data Warehouse now has built in AI functions that let you extract, classify, analyze sentiment, and transform unstructured text directly inside T-SQL. In this episode of Fabric Insider, I sit down with Jovan Popovic from the Fabric Data Warehouse team for a deeply practical, demo heavy conversation about AI Functions, one of the most genuinely useful additions to T-SQL I have seen in a long time. 🎯 What we cover in this episode: ✅ AI_EXTRACT, pulling structured information like symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment straight out of free text notes, returned as JSON ✅ AI_CLASSIFY, picking the most contextually relevant category for a piece of text, useful for automatically labeling incoming data ✅ AI_ANALYZE_SENTIMENT, detecting positive, negative, mixed, or neutral sentiment across comments, reviews, and emails stored in your tables ✅ AI_SUMMARIZE, generating summaries of long text directly in a query ✅ AI_TRANSLATE, translating text into another language, live demo across German, Spanish, French, and Italian ✅ AI_FIX_GRAMMAR, correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation automatically ✅ AI_GENERATE_RESPONSE, custom prompt based processing directly in T-SQL, going beyond the built in functions when you need your own logic ✅ Best practices, encapsulating your prompts inside a T-SQL function or stored procedure for reuse and governance 🗺️ What is coming next and what is on the roadmap for AI Functions in Fabric Data Warehouse 💡 The bigger picture, SQL developers no longer need a separate pipeline or external service to do text analysis, sentiment detection, and classification. It all happens inside your normal T-SQL queries, at scale. 🎙️ Fabric Insider Series, direct conversations with Microsoft product team members on what is new, what is coming, and what matters most in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. 📺 Full Fabric Insider Playlist:    • Fabric Insider - 2026   🎧 Fabric Insider on Spotify: open.spotify.com/show/4eJrCr5UOWZ7ggmrVUce6l 📚 Fabric Insider Blog Series: radacad.com/category/fabric-insider-2026 💡 Power BI / Fabric Ideas: ideas.fabric.microsoft.com 💬 Microsoft Fabric Reddit: reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFabric 📌 Previous Fabric Insider Episodes: 🎙️ Ep. 1, Wilson Lee, Fabric Mirroring, Copy Job & SAP Integration 🎙️ Ep. 2, Zoe Douglas, Power BI Visualization Updates & Roadmap 🎙️ Ep. 3, Miguel Escobar, Power Query, Dataflows & What's Next 🎙️ Ep. 4, Santhosh Kumar Ravindran, Fabric Spark Performance & Custom Live Pools 🎙️ Ep. 5, Christian Wade, What's Hot and New for Power BI Semantic Models 🎙️ Ep. 6, Yitzhak Kesselman, Real-Time Intelligence & Fabric IQ 🎙️ Ep. 7, Rie Merritt, Everything About the Microsoft MVP Program 🎙️ Ep. 8, Hasan Abo-Shally, Fabric MCP Servers, CLI & AI Agents 🎙️ Ep. 9, Wee Hyong Tok, Data Integration, Migration & Future of ETL 🎙️ Ep. 10, Mohammad Ali, The Next Evolution of Power BI 🎙️ Ep. 11, Sachin Patney, Fabric Apps & Rayfin Deep Dive 🎙️ Ep. 12, Josh Caplan, OneLake Updates & Vision 🎙️ Ep. 13, Kay Unkroth, DAX UDFs, Query REST API & Outbound Access Protection 🎙️ Ep. 14, Rui Romano, PBIP, PBIR & Agentic AI Development 🎙️ Ep. 15, Harleen Kaur, Skills for Power BI Report Authoring 🎙️ Ep. 16, Miles Cole, Liquid Clustering Deep Dive & Fabric Jumpstart 🎙️ Ep. 17, Bogdan Crivat, The Future of Data Warehousing in the AI Era 📖 Related resources: 📝 Working with Unstructured Text in Fabric Data Warehouse with Built-in AI Functions: community.fabric.microsoft.com/blog/fbc_fabricupdatesblogs/working-with-unstructured-text-in-fabric-data-warehouse-with-built-in-ai-functio/5172052 📖 AI Functions documentation: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-warehouse/ai-functions 🎓 New SQL AI Developer certification, DP-800 🌐 RADACAD Website: radacad.com 🔗 Corporate Training: radacad.com/corporate-training/ 🔗 Power BI Training: radacad.com/power-bi-training/ 🔗 Microsoft Fabric Training: radacad.com/microsoft-fabric-training/ #MicrosoftFabric #FabricDataWarehouse #AIFunctions #TSQL #FabricInsider #JovanPopovic #SQLServer #DataEngineering #GenerativeAI #FabricAnalytics #BusinessIntelligence #DataWarehouse #SentimentAnalysis #AIAgents #DP800
