Christmas market in Gelnhausen, 8-11.12.2022

Gelnhausen is charming, small town in Hessen. Full of half-timbered buildings, a huge ruin of the palace where Barbarossa once lived, and a beautiful old church, the Marienkirche, known as the crown jewel of Gelnhausen. Well worth a day trip from Frankfurt any time of they year. This is a smaller market than what they usually have, but it was cute and the residents were pouring in by 17:00. Gelnhausen is easy to reach from Frankfurt. Direct trains run twice an hour on their way to Fulday. Ride takes about 30-45 min. Use the RMV website to find prices and times. If you are going to Büdingen, this is the stop where you switch trains. Extra info - Frederick Barbarossa was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1155-1190
