Roman Brown entered court standing firmly behind familiar sovereign citizen claims including that he was traveling instead of driving that he was not a United States citizen and that he did not recognize the court’s authority. But the evidence showed that his Michigan driver’s license had been cancelled and the vehicle was not properly registered. After hearing testimony from the officer reviewing the body camera footage and listening to Brown’s own explanation the judge found him guilty on all three charges. The situation quickly changed once sentencing began. The same Sovereign Citizen who confidently challenged the court began pleading with the judge for compassion after learning he would serve 30 days in jail. He explained that he had children and admitted that he had been reading studying and listening to information that convinced him he was doing the right thing. The judge made it clear that calling driving traveling does not remove the legal requirements for operating a motor vehicle and warned him about the dangerous consequences of playing games with police officers during a traffic stop.
