Rohtas Fort is a magnificent 16th-century fortress located near the city of Jhelum in Punjab, Pakistan. It was commissioned by Sher Shah Suri, the founder of the Sur Empire, between 1541 and 1548. The fort was strategically built to block the advance of the Mughal emperor Humayun, who was attempting to return to India after being exiled to Persia. The fortress also served to subdue local rebellious tribes, particularly the Gakhars.
