Like the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae, 400 Marylanders held off a giant British force long enough for most of Washington’s Army to escape from Long Island on August 27, 1776. More than half of these heroes were killed or captured. Gabriel Neville takes a look at what happened to the survivors in British hands. Neville is the author of The Last Men Standing: The 8th Virginia in the American Revolution.
