Half Acre Polyhouse Farming Success Story | B.Tech Graduate | Capsicum

What happens when you try business after business—and still refuse to give up? Meet Chandan Patel from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, a B.Tech graduate whose journey took him from a job at Jio to pearl farming, lemongrass cultivation, YouTube, goat farming, and finally protected cultivation. After several setbacks, Chandan decided not to rush into his next investment. From 2023 onwards, he spent nearly 1 to 1.5 years researching polyhouse farming, visiting farmers, studying crop suitability, market prices, profitability, and future opportunities. He eventually installed a half-acre polyhouse through AgriFirst, where he is cultivating red and yellow colored capsicum. His first colored capsicum crop was planted with around 5,000 plants—approximately 2,500 red and 2,500 yellow capsicum plants. Harvesting began on October 22, around 80 days after transplanting. Today, he is producing an average of around 2 tonnes per month, with an average selling price of approximately ₹100 per kg. But Chandan’s story is not just about production or income. He compares his half-acre polyhouse with the 7–8 acres of traditional paddy and wheat farming he continues alongside it. According to him, the income from the half-acre polyhouse can be higher than what he earns from those 7–8 acres of traditional farming. His polyhouse has also created employment for 4–5 people from his village.
