Join us as we take another leisurely walk along the disused Branch Railway Track. This time we are searching for the Portland Giant!
Starting at Wakeham and walking the track to East Weare Rifle Range and finishing at the Grove.
The Portland Branch Railway was a railway line located on the Isle of Portland in the county of Dorset. The line operated from the late nineteenth century until closing to passengers in the 1952 and goods in 1965.
Its construction needed twelve years of blasting through solid rock and three extensions of Parliamentary time.
Today, parts of the line can still be walked. This part of the line made it one of the most scenic lines in the south west of England; it is now part of Dorset's World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
