UNC Student Murder Trial — NC v. Miguel Salguero-Olivares — Full Openings

Both the state and defense gave their opening statements against Miguel Salguero-Olivares, who is accused of assaulting and killing 19-year-old Faith Hedgepeth in September 2012. The prosecution stated that Salguero-Olivares crept into the UNC student’s apartment, sexually assaulted her, and then killed her. They stated he also left his DNA behind inside and on the victim. The defense claims that the investigators did not test a swab of blood that was taken at the crime scene in 2012 and that the evidence was eventually lost.
