This minimalist mix recreates the basic rhythm track of The Beatles' "Hey Jude" as recorded at Trident Studios, London, on July 31, 1968. After two days of rehearsals and rough takes at Abbey Road, The Beatles began recording the song properly during a session from 2:00 PM to 4:00 AM at Trident Studios, 17 St Anne's Court, London. Unlike Abbey Road, Trident had operational eight-track recording facilities, and The Beatles were keen to exploit this new technology. The Basic Track - July 31, 1968: The group recorded four takes of the rhythm track, with: Paul McCartney: Piano and guide vocals John Lennon: Acoustic guitar George Harrison: Electric guitar Ringo Starr: Drums Take 1 was considered the best, and became the foundation for all subsequent overdubs added on August 1st. This mix isolates the essential elements of that historic first take - the core performance that would become one of The Beatles' most iconic recordings and their first release on Apple Records. Fun fact: During the recording, Ringo left his drum booth to use the toilet without Paul noticing. Paul started the actual take, and suddenly felt Ringo tiptoeing past his back to reach his drums just in time for his entrance - his timing was absolutely impeccable!
