Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is making a full-court press for Canadian unity in Alberta, urging voters to reject separation in Monday’s referendum. “Don't be fooled by the idea you can send a message with your vote. This is not poker. A vote against Canada is a dangerous bluff that will lead to years of deep uncertainty and lost opportunities,” the Liberal prime minister said at a pro-Canada rally in Calgary Thursday night. Carney acknowledged Alberta’s frustrations with Ottawa are real, admitting the province's energy contributions have at times become a source of division. But he pointed to new investments and energy projects as evidence of what Alberta can gain within Canada. He also emphasized that could reduce dependence on the United States, amid a full-blown trade war.
