Sometimes you have to stand still and observe to enjoy the relaxing and meditative qualities of nature. That's what I invite you to do here. Just drift away surrounded by the trees, ferns, grasses and the sound of the wind high up in the canopy above. Birds call near and far. Drops of water from the recent rain fall, while the light flickers and changes as the afternoon sun lowers in the sky, behind the pines. This is the first time I've tried a fixed perspective video. I hope you find it relaxing. Let me know what you think. And, don't worry, I'll still be doing walking videos as well. This was shot in early Autumn the woods at Old Ebbworth ‪@nationaltrustcharity‬ in Gloucestershire, UK. I'm not sure whether JRR Tolkien ever walked these woods but I can easily imagine a woodsman of Middle Earth and his family inhabiting that old stone cottage. Well, if they had corrugated iron roofs, maybe... Perhaps some elves or hobbits were watching me, silently and secretly through the trees, while I filmed this. I know that certain classical music composers were inspired by the idea of standing still in the forest, and that's where the idea came from. What is Walking the Shire? Walking the Shire shares beautiful, scenic POV walks in the countryside that inspired JRR Tolkien. But I'm not obsessed with Tolkien or the lore of Middle Earth. I just like connecting with nature in landscape so beautiful it inspired some of the world's greatest fantasy novels. I'll take you on woodland walks, explore the hillsides and waterways, and try to share some of the wonderful scenery on offer. To begin with, I'm focusing on the Cotswolds, in England, which are on my doorstep, but might venture further afield into other parts of the West Country, the Midlands and South Wales. Let me know what you think, and if there's a walk you'd like me to consider filming, let me know and I'll look into it. Hope you find the videos calming, relaxing and meditative. I've made them with that in mind. And they're all natural - no AI, no fancy editing, no music, no talking... just walking.
