Miss Marple & The Murder At The Autumn Fête | A Miss Marple Story

Autumn has arrived in the quiet village of St. Mary Mead, bringing golden leaves, church bells, homemade preserves, and the annual village fête. Everything appears perfectly cheerful — until Colonel Everard Ashworth, one of the village’s most respected and generous benefactors, is found dead beside the tombola stand. At first, his death might be mistaken for a tragic accident. But Miss Jane Marple notices something the others overlook: the wound is far too deliberate, and the Colonel had been afraid shortly before his death. As Inspector Slack begins his investigation, Miss Marple quietly examines the people closest to the Colonel. His housekeeper Agnes Grieve seems to be hiding a painful connection to his past. His niece Diana has just learned that her inheritance may be changing. Her fiancé Gerald Foster has a secret of his own. And the Reverend Wetherby knows that Colonel Ashworth had recently spoken of “penance” and an old debt that could never be settled with money alone. Then an unfinished letter is discovered — one that threatens to expose a secret buried for more than thirty years. What really happened behind the cheerful bunting of the autumn fête? Who knew about the Colonel’s new will? Why had someone searched through his private papers? And what happened during those few minutes when the music and laughter provided the perfect cover for murder? Miss Marple must follow a trail of old guilt, hidden motives, inheritance, and long-forgotten debts before the truth disappears beneath the respectable surface of St. Mary Mead. This atmospheric Miss Marple mystery combines classic village intrigue, subtle clues, family secrets, emotional tension, and a final revelation rooted in human weakness rather than simple evil. Settle in, listen carefully, and see if you can discover the truth before Miss Marple does.
