2051 Sea Odyssey - Episode 1 2051 Sea Odyssey is a STEM outreach initiative from DAN, DEEP, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the University of Utah, funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Across this eight-part docuseries, we're following the scientists and engineers advancing undersea research - made to inspire the next generation to join them. Episode 1 sets the stage for the series: how do you get into the ocean, and stay there? This introduction lays out the core challenge of long-duration ocean exploration – the physiology divers face at depth, what it takes to safely extend time underwater, and the ever-present risk of decompression sickness.
