Deacon Crowe - I Ain't Afraid of the Pine Box (Dark Outlaw Country)

"I ain't afraid of the pine box. When they lower me down, don't you cry." Deacon Crowe built his own pine box in the barn, and now he calls his people to his bed with a few last orders for the day they bury him. No tears, no black, and no preacher lying about the good man he never was: just the truth, and how the grace of God came riding after him. LYRICS I ain't afraid of the pine box, I built it with these hands I built it plain and built it square, the way the good Lord planned Now gather round my bed, y'all, I got some things to say About the day they lay me down and carry me away I ain't afraid of the pine box When they lower me down, don't you cry I ain't afraid of the pine box Jesus is waiting on the other side Don't let the preacher lie and say I was a good man I rode with thieves from Abilene down to the Rio Grande I broke my mama's heart in two and left her on her knees The devil held my reins, and I rode anywhere he pleased Then tell 'em how the grace of God came riding after me It found me in a jailhouse cell when I was forty-three It never asked me what I'd done or made me pay the cost Jesus settled it one Friday, hanging on a cross (Chorus) I nailed this box of Texas pine like a carpenter would The Carpenter who saved me hung on two old beams of wood They laid Him in a borrowed grave, but the stone rolled away So six feet down won't hold me, I'm rising the same way Don't wear no black, darling, wear the yellow dress I love And sing so loud beside that grave they hear you up above And when they throw the dirt on me, don't you hang your head The devil lost me long ago, I ain't among the dead (Chorus) When they lower me down, don't you cry I ain't afraid of the pine box More from Deacon Crowe: I Ain't Too Far Gone for the Blood    • Deacon Crowe - I Ain't Too Far Gone for th...   Deacon Crowe is a fictional character.
