2026 Collections Trust award | Highly commended | Tank Museum

Each year, the CT Award showcases some of the often-unsung collections management projects happening in museums across the UK. This year’s award called for case studies on the theme of Accountability for collections. Being accountable for collections is key to maintaining public trust in museums, but it is also a necessity for managing and using objects effectively. This project is titled: Do We Sell Tanks? The Tank Museum’s Designated Collection includes c 500,000 objects. The museum has an ongoing piece of work reviewing the collections, identifying material that can be put forward for consideration for disposal. This sometimes involves the disposal of vehicles, which are occasionally put up for sale. The museum’s media team worked with the collections teams to produce a video called ‘Do We Sell Tanks?’ explaining the process to their audience.
