India Has No Middle Class - Only Debt and Show Off - Ashok Kumar Pandey

Ashok Kumar Pandey argues that India's “middle class” is largely a debt-fuelled identity: one or two missed salaries away from food insecurity, loaded with EMIs and encouraged to look down on poorer workers. In this conversation with Sheeba Aslam Fehmi, he links economic precarity to suicide, anger, misogyny, communal hatred, pro-war culture and a generation deprived of love, purpose and dreams.
