tidtu a kamamatuan music from the kulintang traditions of the maguindanao people of the southern philippines, with drumset, version 2. kamamatuan is an older style in the tidtu tradition whose rhythms can be heard as stretched beyond a duple feel. master artist danongan kalanduyan encouraged me to adapt different rhythmic and time layers in the traditional music. here, the drumset follows this rhythmic approach and begins with the dabakan drum pattern, and moves around the drumset implying a triplet 4/4 swing feel, or in effect 12/8 over four dotted-quarter beats, expanding the eight duple pulses every four beats into twelve. the ensemble of danongan kalanduyan, kulintang, with olivia sawi, agung, titania buchholdt, babandir on high kulintang gong, melissa martinez, babandir pattern on agung side, and royal hartigan, drumset. technical assistant rocco ray. permission for online use by prof. kalanduyan. recording by weihua zhang at san francisco state university, san francisco, california, on 23 march, 2012.
