Thursday ended up being a very busy day, so Day 4 is coming to you on Friday this week. But we're continuing through Genesis 25:19–26, and there is so much in this passage that applies to the seasons when we're waiting, worrying, or simply don't understand what God is doing.
God had already promised that His covenant would continue through Isaac and his descendants.
But there was a problem.
Isaac and Rebekah didn't have any children.
Isaac was forty when he married Rebekah and sixty when Jacob and Esau were born.
Twenty years of waiting.
So what did Isaac do with something he couldn't change?
He prayed.
God answered, and Rebekah became pregnant.
But then the answer to Isaac's prayer brought a new question.
The babies struggled violently inside Rebekah, and she didn't understand what was happening.
So what did Rebekah do?
She went to the Lord and asked Him.
I love the simplicity of both responses.
Isaac brought what he couldn't change to God.
Rebekah brought what she couldn't understand to God.
God doesn't always answer our prayers exactly the way we want.
And He doesn't always explain why something is happening.
But we can always go to Him.
Faith doesn't mean pretending we understand everything.
And prayer isn't a way of forcing God to give us the outcome we want.
It's dependence.
It's recognizing that He is God and we are not.
So whatever you're carrying today:
Bring what you cannot change to God.
Bring what you cannot understand to God.
And trust Him with what you cannot yet see.
