The satellite may be directly overhead, yet my radio can still go completely quiet. In this video, I explain why an amateur radio satellite disappears at the worst possible moment—and why the problem may have nothing to do with the satellite itself.
I break down how pass geometry, buildings, trees, Doppler shift, changing polarization, antenna nulls, repeater capture, squelch, prediction errors, local noise, and cable loss can combine to make a strong pass feel impossible to work. I also show how recording the entire pass and matching each symptom to the right fix can turn confusing dropouts into useful clues.
When the timing, frequency, antenna position, and operating technique finally align, the satellite stops seeming unpredictable—and starts making sense.
