In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to create and run my first hydrological model using HEC-HMS 4.13 (Hydrologic Modeling System), step by step.
This video is designed for beginners who want to understand the basic workflow of rainfall-runoff modelling using HEC-HMS.
What you will learn in this video:
Creating a new HEC-HMS project.
Creating a Basin Model and identifying the subbasin and outlet.
Setting up subbasin parameters using the Initial & Constant Loss method and Clark Unit Hydrograph transform method.
Preparing a sample rainfall dataset in Excel.
Creating a precipitation gage and entering rainfall data at 15-minute intervals.
Creating and configuring the Meteorologic Model.
Defining the simulation period and computation interval using Control Specifications.
Creating a Simulation Run.
Computing the model and checking the computation messages.
Understanding the next steps for viewing the simulated runoff hydrograph.
About the rainfall data
The rainfall data used in this demonstration are fictional sample data prepared for learning purposes. The model is intended to demonstrate the HEC-HMS workflow and is not a calibrated or validated flood prediction model.
This tutorial is part of my learning and knowledge-sharing journey in hydrology, GIS, water resources, and environmental modelling.
