AAP & DMK March in Chennai Demands Abolish EVMs | SIR Voter Deletions Protest Explained

Aam Aadmi Party and DMK jointly organised a protest march in Chennai against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with leaders demanding that EVMs be abolished and ballot papers brought back. The rally came amid ongoing complaints of large-scale voter deletions in Tamil Nadu and calls for greater transparency in the electoral process. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan accused the system of misusing people’s mandate by removing names through SIR and manipulating EVMs.The march saw hundreds of workers and supporters carrying flags and banners that read “Abolish EVMs, Ballot Papers Are the Way Forward.” Police were present as the procession moved through city roads. Speaking to the media, Elangovan said voters are the real bosses in a democracy and must be allowed to choose their government freely, without their names being deleted or their votes being manipulated.This protest follows the walkout by TVK, DMK and several other parties from an Election Commission all-party meeting on the Special Summary Revision. Many parties continue to question how and when the roughly 74 lakh voters removed during the SIR exercise in Tamil Nadu will be re-enrolled.
