Niger posted 7% growth in Q2 2026, the strongest in the entire WAEMU zone according to the BCEAO, after nationalizing its SOMAÏR uranium mine, opening 49 factories in one year and launching a 40,000-hectare irrigation program. #Niger
In 2023, Niger faced ECOWAS sanctions, a power cut from Nigeria and the departure of French troops. Experts predicted collapse. Three years later, here are 20 projects transforming the country under General Abdourahamane Tiani: the 234 km RN1 Maradi-Zinder road, the SOMAÏR uranium nationalization, the Large-Scale Irrigation Program, the YJ Fer rebar factory (300,000 tons a year), the 40 MW Algerian-Nigerien power plant, the Niger-Benin oil pipeline (110,000 barrels a day), a national military industry, the Arlit-Assamaka trans-Saharan road, the Kano-Maradi railway (80% complete), the 1.9-billion-dollar Dosso refinery project, the AES investment bank, and the Kandadji Dam. We also cover what is still unfinished: insecurity, projects still on paper and the political transition.
