Few franchises in video game history have spanned as many eras, genres, and alternate continuities as Capcom's Mega Man*. It all began in 1987 with the classic NES series, where Dr. Thomas Light built the gentle household robot Rock, who volunteered to be converted into the weapon-copying hero **Mega Man* to stop his former partner, Dr. Wily, from conquering the world. Along the way, the classic cast expanded to include Light's assistant Roll, the lone-wolf prototype **Proto Man**, the trusty robotic dog **Rush**, and Wily's self-made rival **Bass**. As the decades progressed, Capcom spun the franchise into entirely new directions. The gritty, philosophical Mega Man X series fast-forwarded a century into the future, introducing *Mega Man X**—the first robot with true free will—alongside his battle-hardened partner **Zero**, who eventually took center stage in the *Mega Man Zero series against tyrants like Dr. Weil. Meanwhile, the Mega Man Legends sub-series brought a fully 3D adventure world led by *Mega Man Volnutt* and his sister Roll Caskett, while the Battle Network and Star Force eras completely reimagined the hero as *MegaMan.EXE* and *MegaMan Star Force* in internet and cyberspace dimensions. Across every iteration and alternate reality, the blue bomber remains a timeless gaming icon.
