Birth of Ganesha Nandi , Shiva and Parvati are living in Mount Kailasa and Shiva leaves to bless his many devotees praying for salvation and boons. In the absence of Shiva and Nandi, Parvati creates Ganesha from the turmeric and dirt from her own body and breathes life into the sculpture. She instructs Ganesha, a normal teenage boy to stand guard while she is having her bath. Ganesha stops Shiva and his entourage when they enter Kailasa and in the ensuing scuffle, Shiva decapitates Ganesha. Parvati is distressed and angry and prepares to destroy the world. All Gods get together to find a solution and it is decided that the head of the first animal who is facing north will be used to bring Ganesha back to life. That is how Ganesha got his elephant head. Bho Shambo Shiva shambho Swayam Bho - sung by Sooryagayatri , lyrics by Swami Dayananda Saraswati This shows the power of Nandi and Shiva and Shiva as Lord of dance. Shiva and Parvati dance to Nrithyathi Nrithyathi , composition by Maharaja Swati Tirunal - Raag: Shankarabharanam This shows the the duality and unity of Shiva and Shakti, Shiva's consort / the Ardhanareeshwara. Nagabhooshitha padangalum is bhajan in Sopana (this is the traditional music system of kerala) style sung by Eloor Biju Devotees describe the form of Shiva who has Ganga and moon in his hair, Bhasma smeared across his body, adorned with snakes and wearing tiger skin. Though his form is scary, he is the benevolent Lord to whom devotees ask for blessings Paahi parvata Nandini is a Swati Tirunal kriti in Raag Aarabhi and sung by P Jayachandran describes Parvati as the daughter of King Parvata and has a face which rivals the moon Mahaganapathim in Raag Natta written by Muthuswami Deekshithar and sung by P Jayachandran We close by meditating on the supreme Ganapati. He who is revered and worshipped by great sages and devotees.
