Congolese political commentator and social media personality Denise Mukendi Dusauchoy has reportedly been detained in Tanzania, triggering conflicting reports, political warnings and intense speculation over whether she is being transferred to Kinshasa.
Multiple Congolese media outlets and regional sources reported that Dusauchoy was apprehended in Tanzania on 30 August 2026. However, accounts differ over the exact location and circumstances of her detention. Some reports place the incident at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, while others claim she was initially detained elsewhere before being transferred to the city.
The story took a dramatic turn when sources alleged that authorities in Kinshasa had dispatched a private aircraft to Tanzania to return her to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Other unverified reports claimed that she had been lured into a trap by someone allegedly cooperating with Congolese intelligence and cybersecurity officials.
No competent authority has publicly confirmed those intelligence allegations.
Screenshots circulated from Flightradar24 show a Bombardier Challenger 601-3A flying over Tanzania’s Dodoma region. However, the aircraft’s registration, origin and destination were displayed as unavailable. The images therefore do not independently establish that the aircraft had travelled from Kinshasa, was returning to the Congolese capital or was carrying Denise Dusauchoy.
Conflicting reports later claimed that her transfer had been blocked and that no private aircraft had departed Dar es Salaam for Kinshasa. At the time this report was prepared, neither the Tanzanian nor Congolese authorities had publicly provided a detailed account confirming her location, legal status or possible transfer.
The case has prompted some Congolese citizens to appeal directly to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, asking her government not to return Dusauchoy to the DRC without guarantees protecting her life, rights and access to due process.
Their concern comes after the DRC lifted its long-standing moratorium on the implementation of the death penalty in 2024 for offences including treason, espionage, armed rebellion and other serious national-security crimes. However, no official authority has disclosed the allegations currently facing Dusauchoy, and there is no confirmed evidence that she has been charged with an offence carrying the death penalty.
This Rwanda Updates TV investigation reconstructs the timeline of her reported detention, examines the contradictory flight claims and explores Tanzania’s previous security cooperation with Kinshasa—including the 2024 detention of AFC official Eric Nkuba Shebandu in Dar es Salaam before his appearance in Congolese custody.
The central questions remain unanswered: Where is Denise Mukendi Dusauchoy? Has a formal extradition or deportation procedure begun? Was she placed aboard the private aircraft seen over Tanzania, or did the flight have no connection to her case?
Watch the full report for the verified background, disputed claims, flight-tracking evidence and wider political implications for the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
